SmartWater is now being used on the Isle of Wight to protect homes, businesses and personal possessions.
What is SmartWater?
SmartWater is a clear fluid that is quickly and easily applied to your property. It uses state-of-the-art forensic technology to protect your valuables and will not harm your property. Each SmartWater kit contains a unique DNA-style forensic code and is simply dabbed onto your property. Each code is stored on a secure database together the owner’s details making it uniquely identifiable. Once dry it is virtually impossible to remove and any traces will glow under ultra-violet light. It irrefutably links criminals to the crime scene and property back to its owner.
Proven to reduce crime! - When used by Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships as part of their crime prevention initiatives, SmartWater is achieving reductions in burglary of up to 84%. Criminals know about SmartWater and they hate it! SmartWater is used across theUK and maintains a perfect 100% conviction rate wherever it has been used as evidence in a court of law.
Smatwater comes ashore
On the Island the Safer Neighbourhoods Partnership, led by the Council and the Police has developed a SmartWater strategy for the Island, focussing on residential burglary initially. The Partnership is working closely with Neighbourhood Watch, the Island Safe initiative and housing associations to target vulnerable areas with free SmartWater kits as well as to victims of burglary to prevent repeat victimisation.
A key part of the strategy is a communications plan which will see the initiative highlighted in the County Press, Meridian news and on IOW radio. A video clip has been made of a mock burglary to demonstrate how SmartWater works in practice and a full back of the bus advert designed to go on a Southern Vectis bus. The partnership is also designing appropriate signage to go up in target areas to highlight that property is protected in that area, to deter potential thieves.
